Mammogram-guided needle localization is a specialized breast imaging procedure used to identify and mark the exact location of a breast abnormality that is visible on a mammogram but may not be easily felt during a physical examination. Using mammographic images for guidance, a radiologist places a thin localization wire or marker near the targeted area to help the surgeon locate it during a subsequent surgical procedure.
