An excision biopsy of a breast mass is a surgical procedure in which an entire breast lump or targeted abnormal area is removed for laboratory examination. The collected tissue is examined by a pathologist to determine whether the mass is benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous), helping guide the patient's next steps in care.
