The 24 hours Urine Total protein urine test measures the amount of protein in a sample of urine collected over 24 hours. Proteins are substances that are essential for the body to function properly and is normally found in the blood. Increase amounts of protein in urine may indicate kidney disease.

- Avoid collection of specimens within 24 hours of intense exercise.
- At the start of the collection, empty your bladder and discard the first urine.
- Collect all urine passed over the next 24 hours.
- Record the start and end date and time of the collection.
- Keep the urine container refrigerated or stored in an ice chest throughout the collection period.
