Asian Hospital and Medical Center's Pathology and Laboratory delivers comprehensive, accurate, and timely diagnostic services that support clinical decision-making across the continuum of care. Equipped with advanced technology and staffed by highly trained professionals, the department ensures reliable results for both inpatient and outpatient services.

Our laboratory is organized into specialized units and is further strengthened through strategic partnerships with reputable referral laboratories, enabling access to a full spectrum of routine to highly specialized diagnostic testing.

CORE LABORATORY SERVICES

  • Clinical Chemistry
A fully automated, high-capacity unit providing a wide range of chemical analyses for blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and other body fluids. Designed to support both routine and STAT testing, the unit ensures rapid turnaround times while maintaining analytical precision—critical for urgent and high-volume clinical demands.

  • Hematology and Coagulation

This unit performs comprehensive testing for blood disorders and coagulation abnormalities. Services include automated and manual cell counts, coagulation studies, platelet function testing, and detailed examination of peripheral blood and bone marrow smears to support accurate diagnosis and patient management.

  • Clinical Microscopy and Body Fluids

A well-equipped section that conducts routine and specialized microscopic examinations of urine, stool, seminal fluid, and other body fluids. The unit provides essential diagnostic insights for a wide range of clinical conditions.

  • Immunology and Serology

This unit delivers precise detection and quantification of antigens and antibodies associated with infectious and non-infectious diseases. It also performs testing for hormones, tumor markers, therapeutic drug monitoring, and specific proteins, supporting both diagnosis and disease monitoring.

  • Clinical Microbiology

A comprehensive unit specializing in the isolation and identification of bacterial and fungal pathogens. It performs antimicrobial susceptibility testing in accordance with international standards, enabling clinicians to prescribe targeted and effective therapies while supporting antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.

SPECIALIZED LABORATORY SERVICES

  • Molecular Pathology

The Molecular Laboratory provides advanced diagnostic testing using nucleic acid-based technologies. It supports precision medicine through the detection of infectious agents, genetic markers, and oncologic biomarkers. The unit plays a critical role in enabling early diagnosis, targeted therapy selection, and disease monitoring.

  • Anatomic Pathology

This section delivers expert tissue-based diagnostics, including histopathology, cytology, and intraoperative consultations (frozen section). It supports accurate disease diagnosis, particularly in oncology, through detailed morphologic and immunohistochemical evaluation.

  • Blood Bank and Donor Center

The Blood Bank and Donor Center ensures a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components for patient care. It provides services in blood collection, processing, compatibility testing, and transfusion support. The center also actively promotes voluntary blood donation through mobile blood drives and community engagement initiatives, ensuring readiness for both routine and emergency requirements.

PATIENT-CENTERED SUPPORT SERVICES

  • Phlebotomy and Pre-Analytical Services

This unit ensures proper patient preparation, specimen collection, labeling, and handling—critical steps in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of laboratory results. Staffed by skilled phlebotomists, the unit prioritizes patient safety, comfort, and efficiency.

  • STAT Laboratory

Located within the Emergency Department, the STAT Laboratory provides rapid diagnostic testing for critically ill patients. It operates 24/7 to deliver immediate results that support urgent clinical decisions, ensuring timely intervention in life-threatening situations.

  • Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) Services

The POCT Services program enables rapid diagnostic testing at or near the patient’s bedside across various hospital units, including critical care and outpatient areas. These tests provide immediate results that support real-time clinical decision-making, particularly in urgent and high-acuity settings.

The laboratory ensures strict oversight of all POCT activities, including device validation, quality control monitoring, staff training, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. This ensures that POCT results are accurate, reliable, and fully integrated into patient care.

REFERRAL LABORATORY PARTNERSHIPS

To further expand its diagnostic capabilities, the Department maintains strategic partnerships with internationally and locally recognized referral laboratories. These collaborations enable access to highly specialized and esoteric testing not routinely performed in-house, while ensuring that all referred tests meet stringent quality standards, secure data transmission protocols, and clinically acceptable turnaround times. This integrated network approach allows the department to offer a broader test menu while maintaining continuity, reliability, and excellence in patient care.

COMMITMENT TO QUALITY AND EXCELLENCE

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services is committed to delivering high-quality diagnostic services through continuous process improvement, adherence to international standards, and investment in advanced technologies. Through strong integration with clinical teams and trusted laboratory partners, the department plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes and advancing healthcare delivery.
