Foot and Ankle

Foot and ankle is a subspecialty section of Orthopedic Surgery that specializes in the simple or complex operative or non-operative care of the foot and ankle. The surgeons of the section are board-certified and fellowship trained internationally to handle foot and ankle pathologies that may include foot and ankle trauma, sports injuries, deformities, arthritic conditions, tumors and infections. They are well-respected in the field and have delivered lectures and presentations and published papers both locally and internationally.

Your experience in our section begins with a thorough history taking and physical examination focused on the lower part of our body that serve to support us when we stand or walk. This may be followed by diagnostic imaging procedures such as weight-bearing and functional radiographs that allow us to assess biomechanics, cartilage integrity, limb alignment and measurement of relevant angulations. Diseases that occur in this area pose a challenge in our daily activities owing to the fact that the foot and ankle are essential to mobility and limitations cannot be neglected. With the advent of activities that aim to maintain fitness and wellness, there has been an increase in sports injuries that include ankle instability and cartilage defects. Likewise, with the improvement in healthcare and the concomitant increase in the elderly population, degenerative conditions of the foot and ankle are now becoming less uncommon.

Common foot and ankle diseases that we have had considerable experience in treating include ingrown
toenails, bunions, flatfoot, ankle sprains, diabetic foot, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathies and
lesser toe deformities (e.g. claw toe, mallet toe, hammer toe). Treatment may range from conservative
options such as physical therapy, joint injections and orthotics to the more advanced procedures such as arthroscopy, arthrodesis, osteotomies and in worst cases, amputation. The treatments we utilize are
supported and proven by medical literature recognized worldwide.
