The Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC), through the Asian Institute of Surgery, proudly hosted the Frist Pre-Congress Workshop and Live Surgery of the Philippine Association of Metabolic and Obesity Surgery (PAMOS).

The significant event was held in collaboration with the Philippine Society of General Surgeons (PSGS) and the Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons (PALES), with official endorsement from the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).

This milestone workshop focused on essential didactics in Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, a leading surgical procedure for weight loss and metabolic health. The highlight of the event was the live surgery demonstration conducted by two highly esteemed figures in the field—Dr. Asim Shabbir, President of the IFSO Asia Pacific Chapter, and Dr. Miguel Mendoza, PAMOS President.

The hybrid event drew a diverse and engaged audience, with 50 participants attending onsite from key regions, including Metro Manila, Cebu, Bacolod, and Davao. In addition, the workshop was made accessible online, gathering 104 virtual attendees, further amplifying its reach and educational impact.

This inaugural pre-congress activity underscores the growing commitment of the Philippine surgical community to advancing the practice and understanding of metabolic and bariatric surgery, with the support of international expertise and multidisciplinary collaboration.

“Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery is not merely about weight loss. It’s about restoring health, extending life, and enhancing quality of life.” — Dr. Darwin Salonga, Bariatric Surgeon, Asian Hospital and Medical Center
