When a family is confronted with a cancer diagnosis, it is often an overwhelming emotional experience. The journey becomes even more painful when the diagnosis involves a child. Parents may feel fear, helplessness, frustration, guilt, or profound sadness. The sense of powerlessness is intensified when treatment options appear limited or uncertain. Yet, despite the emotional toll, parents continue to hope—and to pray—for healing and answers.
In both prayer and through the continuous evolution of medical technology, there is reason to remain hopeful. The future holds promise for children with cancer.
Thanks to decades of medical progress, healthcare professionals today have access to a wide range of cancer treatments including surgery, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, targeted therapy, and radiation therapy. These are often used in combination, tailored to the specific type and stage of cancer.
This July 2025, the Asian Cancer Institute at Asian Hospital and Medical Center will take another leap forward in cancer care with the introduction of CyberKnife®, a revolutionary, non-invasive radiation therapy system. CyberKnife® delivers highly targeted radiation to tumors in areas such as the brain, lung, liver, pancreas, spine, prostate, kidney, and head and neck. It offers a critical option for both adults and children with tumors that are difficult to remove surgically or are located in delicate or hard-to-reach areas.
What sets CyberKnife® apart is its precision and patient-friendly nature. It requires no incisions, is generally painless, and often does not require anesthesia—making it especially suited for pediatric patients. Most importantly, treatment can typically be performed on an outpatient basis, eliminating the need for hospital stays.
Even before the arrival of this technology, many children with cancer responded well to conventional therapies, including surgery and chemotherapy. With CyberKnife®, we are now adding a powerful, less invasive option that brings new hope to families—and a chance for children to heal while maintaining their quality of life.
Although CyberKnife® is currently exclusive to Asian Hospital and Medical Center, our goal extends far beyond the walls of our facility. As physicians committed to delivering the highest standard of care, we recognize our responsibility to make this innovative technology more accessible.
Through our H.E.A.L. (Hospital Engagement and Alliance Linkage) network, we partner with hospitals, clinics, cancer centers, dialysis facilities, and other healthcare providers. This collaboration helps extend the reach of CyberKnife® to patients across the country who would greatly benefit from its advanced capabilities.
