Asian Hospital reaffirms commitment to combat tuberculosis with new TB DOTS Center
Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) officially launched its Tuberculosis Directly Observed Treatment, Short-Course (TB DOTS) Center last October 4, 2024. The newly established center provides comprehensive services for the screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of tuberculosis (TB) patients. This marks a significant step forward in the hospital’s efforts to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and adherence to TB care.
The “End TB Strategy,” developed by the World Health Organization, aims to enhance the effectiveness of TB treatment regimens by ensuring that patients complete their prescribed treatment under the supervision of health care providers. The approach focuses on directly observing patients as they take their medications, offering continuous follow-up, and providing education to ensure adherence to the treatment protocol. This method is crucial in preventing the spread of TB and ensuring successful treatment outcomes.
Dr. Beaver Tamesis, AHMC President and CEO, led the official opening of the TB DOTS Center, along with Dr. Mary Jane Sandagon, Head, of DOTS Center, and Dr. Jose Acuin, Chief Medical Officer. Muntinlupa City Health Department representatives, selected officials from the Department of Health, and Asian Hospital key officials attended the event, highlighting the strong collaboration between local health authorities and the hospital.
With the launch of the TB DOTS Center, Asian Hospital and Medical Center reaffirmed its commitment to combatting tuberculosis and improving the health and well-being of the community by providing quality, accessible care, and support for TB patients. The Center’s services will play a vital role in reducing the tuberculosis’ burden in the region, aligning with national and global efforts to eradicate the disease.
