Raising Awareness on Aortic Aneurysm through an Exhibit by the Department of Surgery and the Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery 

As a way to create more awareness about the risk factors and causes of Aortic Aneurysm, AHMC’s Department of Surgery and the Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery hosted an exhibit at the Main Lobby of Asian Hospital last September 3, 2024. 

Dr. Adrian Peter Desquitado, Department of Surgery Division Head, inaugurated the exhibit opening and gave moving messages from Dr. Jose Acuin, Chief Medical Officer, and Dr. Ofelia Valencia, Program Director, Asian Cardiovascular Institute, which reaffirmed AHMC’s commitment to protecting Filipinos’ heart health.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology holds talk on Dieulafoy’s Lesion and upper gastrointestinal bleeding in pregnancy

Effective patient care for expecting mothers involves different departments, especially when complications arise. Given this, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Asian Hospital and Medical Center hosted a lecture on Dieulafoy’s lesion (an uncommon, fatal condition that causes a gastrointestinal bleed) and gastrointestinal bleeding in pregnancy. 

Dieulafoy’s lesion is a developmental vascular malformation of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). It is an enlarged submucosal blood vessel that bleeds in the absence of any abnormality, such as ulcers or erosions. The signs and symptoms are related to blood loss, either due to intermittent or massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage. 

To avoid the complications associated with this condition, it must be promptly diagnosed and treated. The multidisciplinary conference took place last September 3, 2024, at the Conference Facility Unit of Asian Hospital.

Department of Neurosciences and the Asian Brain Institute discuss migraines

Asian Hospital, in collaboration with the Department of Neurosciences and the Asian Brain Institute, hosted a Neuroscience lay forum titled, “Sakit na naman ulo ko, ano ba ito?” last September 5, 2024, at the Conference Facility Unit of Asian Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Corina Maria Socorro Macalintal, Consultant from the Department of Neurosciences, who provided valuable insights into migraines, led the forum, and discussed how understanding their triggers and patterns could aid in developing personalized management strategies, to potentially reduce the frequency and severity of attacks.

The partners for the event included Asian Hospital Charities, Inc., the City Health Office of Muntinlupa, and the P.W.D. Department of Barangay Putatan.

Department of Neurosciences holds “7th Post-graduate Course in Neurology”

The Department of Neurosciences at Asian Hospital invited doctors and allied medical specialists to its 7th Post-graduate Course titled, “Looking through a Kaleidoscope of Neurology: A Multifaceted Case Approach” last September 11, 2024, at the Conference Facility Unit of Asian Hospital and Medical Center.

The course discussed the latest trends and innovations in the field of Neurology, supporting the commitment of AHMC to provide better healthcare for Filipinos.  

Asian Center for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine joins Senior Wellness Day Celebration

Asian Hospital and Medical Center actively participated in the Senior Wellness Day event held last September 7, 2024, at the Activity Area of Robinsons Townville, BF Homes, Parañaque City.

A lay forum on Fall Prevention happened in collaboration with the Center for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. Designed to educate senior citizens on the importance of fall prevention, the forum offered practical tips and strategies to reduce the risk of falls, which are a common concern among older adults.

Department of Neurosciences and Asian Brain Institute partner with the Philippine League against Epilepsy for an empowering forum

The Asian Hospital and Medical Center’s (AHMC) Department of Neurosciences and Asian Brain Institute, in partnership with the Philippine League against Epilepsy, conducted a Lay Forum titled, “Epilepsy Basics and Epilepsy in the Workplace” on September 7, 2024, at the Doctor’s Training Room, 7th Floor Tower 2 of AHMC.

Dr. Grace Kathleen Serrano, Consultant from the Department of Neurosciences, led the forum, where she emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and tailored treatment approaches. The session equipped attendees with practical knowledge to better support and advocate for individuals affected by epilepsy.

Asian Hospital Charities, Inc., the City Health Office of Muntinlupa, and the local barangays in Muntinlupa supported this event. 

Asian Hospital’s Department of Surgery collaborates with Philippine College of Surgeons for a seminar and blood-letting activity

Asian Hospital and Medical Center’s Department of Surgery, along with the Philippine College of Surgeons, celebrated “National Blood Letting and Stop the Bleed Day” on September 11, 2024.

A Lay Forum Seminar and Awareness Session on Stop the Bleed took place. This occurred at the Main Lobby, followed by a Blood Donation Drive at the Blood Bank, 3rd Floor, Tower 2, of Asian Hospital.

Asian Hospital and Medical Center’s Department of Surgery conducted a lecture and workshop titled, “The Essential Role of the Perioperative Nurse in Laparoscopic Surgeries” last September 7, 2024 at the Conference Facility Unit, Asian Hospital and Medical Center.

This session provided hands-on training and practical insights into best practices for perioperative nurses, focusing on their pivotal role in ensuring patient safety and optimizing surgical outcomes during laparoscopic surgeries.

Asian Hospital’s Department of Surgery’s Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery recently held a lay forum on “Aortic Aneurysm: The Why’s and How’s” at the hospital’s Training Room. The forum raised awareness towards improved detection rates of aortic aneurysms through educational talks and expert insights.


Asian Hospital’s Department of Internal Medicine (IM) 15th Post-graduate Course engages innovations in IM

Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) Department of Internal Medicine successfully held its 15th Post-graduate Course, titled “Advances in Health and Medical Care in Internal Medicine: A Multidisciplinary Perspective and Intersections,” at the Grand Ballroom, Acacia Hotel. The event featured a diverse lineup of medical professionals, with notable speakers and experts from various fields.

Dr. Beaver R. Tamesis, the hospital’s President and CEO, attended the opening ceremony along with Dr. Eric Jason Amante, Chair from the Department of the Internal Medicine including other members of the AHMC’s IM Department. 

Participants from various institutions also joined the event, contributing to a dynamic exchange of knowledge and insights.

Asian Cardiovascular Institute’s (ACVI) 3rd Post-graduate Course highlights emerging treatments and technologies in cardio health

ACVI’s 3rd Post-graduate Course, held last September 7, 2024, at the Acacia Hotel, Filinvest City, Alabang, Muntinlupa City, dived deep dive into the latest innovations in cardiovascular health. 

The event brought together a diverse group of experts, health care professionals, and enthusiasts for a day filled with insightful discussions on emerging technologies and pioneering treatments.

Asian Hospital’s Pain Management Awareness Week tackles gender approaches

The Pain Management Awareness Week at Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) officially kicked-off last September 16 with the theme, “Ang Kirot ni Malakas at ang Kirot ni Maganda,” highlighting sex and gender disparities in pain and emphasizing the importance of a biopsychosocial approach to pain management. 

Dr. Maria Dolma Santos, Consultant, Department of Anesthesiology, led the event, which also celebrated the strength of individuals facing pain.

Dr. Beaver Tamesis, AHMC’s President and CEO, attended the launch along with Dr. Jose Acuin, Chief Medical Officer, health care professionals, students, and special guests, underscoring the hospital’s commitment to pain management awareness and patient care.

During the event, attendees explored a mini exhibit and watched a “Pain Services” video. The week also featured the Essential Pain Management (ANZCA) Workshop for medical professionals, aimed at enhancing skills in pain recognition, assessment and treatment focusing on chronic pain management.

Quality Management Group conducts Patient Safety Briefing on correct and timely diagnosis

In celebration of World Patient Safety Day 2024 theme, “Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety,” Asian Hospital and Medical Center, through the Quality Management Group, conducted this month’s Patient Safety Briefing titled “Catch Me, Because You Can” on September 17, 2024 at the Conference Facility Unit.

Mr. Paulo Miguel Samson, RMT, Quality Assurance Officer at Medi Linx Laboratory Inc., and Dr. Imarzen Elepaño, Chair, Department of Radiology, discussed the impact of laboratory and radiology studies on correct and timely diagnosis, emphasizing the importance of ensuring quality and patient safety to ultimately improve health outcomes. 

Reactor speakers for the talks included Ms. Vanessa Tiania, RN, Manager of the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Dr. Frances Bernardo, Consultant from the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Asian Hospital conducts fire evacuation drill with Muntinlupa Fire Department

On October 29, 2024, Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) partnered with the Muntinlupa City Fire Department to conduct a comprehensive fire evacuation drill designed to enhance safety protocols and ensure that all employees are well-prepared to respond swiftly and effectively in the event of an emergency.

During the drill, staff members practiced evacuation procedures, emergency response actions, and the use of safety equipment. This hands-on training not only reinforced the hospital’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment but also aimed to protect the safety and well-being of our patients.

By continually improving our emergency preparedness, AHMC ensured that both health care professionals and patients are ready for any situation, providing peace of mind to everyone at the facility.

Asian Hospital commemorates International Infection Prevention and Control Week

Asian Hospital and Medical Center recently joined the global community in celebrating International Infection Prevention and Control Week, with this year’s theme, “Moving the Needle on Infection Prevention.” 

The event, held at the Main Lobby, featured educational workshops and interactive activities designed to raise awareness of infection prevention and control practices to promote better health outcomes within the community.

The event kicked-off with welcoming remarks from Dr. Jose Acuin, Chief Medical Officer, followed by a presentation from Dr. Joseph Buensalido, Chair, Infection Prevention and Control Committee. 

Dr. Buensalido shared insights on “Strengthening Infection Control Protocols: A Pathway to Improve Healthcare Outcomes,” emphasizing the importance of effective infection control in the healthcare settings.

Participants from across the Philippines attended the “Advanced Adult Nutrition Masterclass” hosted by Asian Hospital and Medical Center on October 19, 2024, at the Savoy Hotel Manila with a shared mission to enhance adult nutrition and overall health.

Asian Hospital and Medical Center hosted its much-anticipated “No Tricks, Just Treats” Halloween celebration on October 31, 2024, dedicated to pediatric patients.

The spooktacular celebration featured a movie marathon and plenty of sweet treats for children, who were thrilled by the special activities and surprises prepared for them. The event created a lively atmosphere, bringing joy and laughter to young patients. Participants embraced the Halloween spirit with creative costumes, wherein an infectious energy emanated throughout the day.

Asian Hospital and Medical Center recently launched Dermatology Week with the theme, “LOVE your skin @ AsianDerm” at the Main Lobby. This event highlighted the hospital’s dedication to skin health and wellness, featuring a series of educational workshops and interactive activities aimed at raising awareness about skin care.

Asian Hospital’s Dermatology Department, Asian Charities Inc., conduct medical mission at Haven for Women in Alabang

Asian Hospital and Medical Center’s Department of Dermatology in partnership with the Asian Charities, Inc., organized a medical mission last October 10, 2024, at the Haven for Women in Alabang.

The Dermatology medical mission titled, “Skin Week 2024: Kalusugan sa Balat, Tugon ng PDS sa Lahat” provided accessible healthcare for the beneficiaries through free skin consultations and essential medications distribution. The initiative promoted skin health and early detection of dermatological conditions, ensuring underserved communities receive the care and treatment they need.

Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) lit its building in pink last October 11, 2024 to raise awareness and to express its support in the fight against breast cancer.
