Routine: Four hours

STAT: Three hours 

Specimen Requirement:

3cc heparinized plasma, transport with ice until analysis 

Patient Preparation:

The patient should avoid any exercise of the arm or hand before or during collection of sample. 

Special Considerations:

Blood should be collected without tourniquet; green top tube placed immediately on ice with water; centrifuge within 15 minutes; separate plasma and refrigerate if there will be delay in testing; avoid hemolysis
