REMARKABLE BREAKTHROUGHS

Thrombectomy

Through the efforts of the Neurocritical Care and Stroke Centers, Asian Hospital and Medical Center is proud to be an Acute Stroke and Thrombectomy-Ready Hospital. With a clear clinical pathway and qualified medical professionals trained in stroke care, the brain attack program ensures that appropriate and timely treatment are given to patients, especially those suffering from moderate to severe strokes. With the recent addition of the thrombectomy services, the window of acute stroke treatment was extended beyond 4.5 hours, offering patients an even better opportunity for the best recovery.

Deep Brain Stimulation

In January 2018, the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center introduced what is heralded as one of the most remarkable breakthroughs in the treatment of movement disorders, the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). DBS is a procedure that uses a surgically implanted, battery-operated device to precise areas in the brain that control movement. In the past year alone, six patients with advanced movement disorders underwent this procedure and were given the chance to re-claim their lives.

Parkinson’s Dance

In celebration of the World Parkinson’s Day and the launch of SPARK – a Support Group for Parkinson’s Disease patients and caregivers, the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center created an instructional video for Parkinson’s Dance. This video contains exercises and movements for patients with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). This video aims to empower the patients who face the challenges associated with the disease, through a dance with age appropriate music and movements that will help them develop focus on body rhythm, coordination, and strength while having fun.

Memory Wellness Programs

The Brain Wellness and Memory Center is an integrated and patient-centered facility offering a holistic program for general brain health from prevention to early recognition and management. The center caters to persons with memory and cognitive concerns. It aims to provide a place to improve brain health, maximize cognitive potentials, decrease the risk of brain disorders, and manage brain health problems. Nonpharmacological management of memory impairment goes hand-in-hand with medications, thus, the memory wellness programs use holistic and multimodal Nonpharmacological strategies for the management of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), dementia, and other related behavioral symptoms.
