Asian Hospital and Medical Center’s Asian Brain Institute (ABI) is a specialized neuroscience center committed to promoting optimal brain health through timely delivery of state-of-the-art treatment and driving education and research in the field of neurosciences. The institute integrates clinical excellence and innovation, patient and family-centered values, and a multi- and interdisciplinary approach in providing holistic and value-based healthcare for patients with neurologic conditions, and those who are at risk.
In 2017, the Asian Brain Institute opened its doors with a complement of the relevant Neuroscience subspecialties manned by an adult and pediatric neurologists, neurosurgeons, and allied professional experts to achieve the common goal of providing the best patient care. It has established the following specialty centers and services: Neurocritical Care Center, Stroke Center, Brain Wellness and Memory Center, Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center, Epilepsy Center, Sleep Laboratory, and Electrophysiology Services. Aside from these centers, the Brain and Spine Trauma Center, the Brain and Spine Tumor Center, and Neurodevelopment Center will be launched.
Through the efforts of the Neurocritical Care and Stroke Centers, Asian Hospital and Medical Center is proud to be an Acute Stroke and Thrombectomy-Ready Hospital. With a clear clinical pathway and qualified medical professionals trained in stroke care, the brain attack program ensures that appropriate and timely treatment is given to patients, especially those suffering from moderate to severe strokes. With the recent addition of the thrombectomy services, the window of acute stroke treatment was extended beyond 4.5 hours, offering patients an even better opportunity for the best recovery.
In January 2018, the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center introduced what is heralded as one of the most remarkable breakthroughs in the treatment of movement disorders, the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). DBS is a procedure that uses a surgically implanted, battery-operated device to precise areas in the brain that control movement. In the past year alone, six patients with advanced movement disorders underwent this procedure and were given the chance to reclaim their lives.
With the full complement of specialists and “super-specialists” in the field of neuroscience, the strong partnerships with the allied medical services, and the support of the Asian Hospital Management, the Asian Brain Institute is looking forward to being recognized as the premier referral center of neuroscience excellence in South Luzon. The Institute aims to extend its reach in providing state-of-the-art care by establishing networks with the healthcare community in the area. It is through these collaborative efforts that better healthcare can be extended to those patients who need it most.
