Run for a healthy lifestyle with Asian Hospital

Date Posted : 05 Feb 2009

Majority of modern health problems today are brought about by disease-promoting lifestyles. Cholesterol-rich diets, smoking and sedentary activity are the foremost culprits in the rise of such diseases as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, coronary heart diseases, osteoporosis and certain types of cancer. While the advancement of medicine has been impressive in the last couple of years enabling clinicians to identify and treat these diseases, modifying behaviors and lifestyle practices have now been actively promoted to avert a veritable epidemic of chronic diseases.

These days, lifestyle medicine is the buzzword in modern medicine. Involving the therapeutic use of lifestyle interventions in the management of diseases, lifestyle medicine promotes comprehensive wellness care that aims to help patients adopt a healthy lifestyle – one which encourages them to eat nutrient-dense foods, stop smoking and overconsumption of alcohol, effectively manage stress and be physically active through exercise that suits their health status.

Asian Hospital and Medical Center strongly advocates this trend towards lifestyle medicine. By advocating evidence-based health promotion and wellness tools to its patient base, Asian Hospital and Medical Center hopes to reduce lifestyle-related disease and mortality through physician-directed intervention.

In line with this advocacy, the health professionals at Asian Hospital and Medical Center embark on improving their own lifestyle choices to become effective role models for their patients via “RUNew: Run for a New, Active and Healthy Lifestyle…and Save Lives,” a fundraising fun run to be held on February 22, 2009, starting at 5:30 a.m., at the McKinley Hill in Taguig City.

Proceeds of the fun run will directly benefit indigent patients whose medical and surgical care is sponsored by Asian Charities, Inc.

There will be three race events to choose from: 3km, which will start at 6:05 a.m.; 5km, to start at 6 a.m.; and 15km, which will start at 5:30 a.m.

Registration starts on February 1, 2009. Early bird registrants who will sign up from February 1 to 15 can enjoy a discounted registration fee of P300. Regular registration from February 16 to 21 is charged at P350, while onsite registration is P500.

Runners also get to relive this memorable experience as they can have their photos taken as they cross the finish line and this can be printed after the race.

So start living healthy now. Run for a healthy lifestyle and help save lives by joining “RUNew.” For inquiries or early registration, call (02) 703-1736 or visit its website at www.runrio.com to download registration forms.
