Surgery (Minimally Invasive Surgery) |
While
other hospitals still perform most abdominal procedures
through conventional open surgery, the Section of Laparoscopic
Surgery at Asian Hospital and Medical Center offers a minimally
invasive, safe and effective alternative.
What
is Laparoscopic Surgery?
Laparoscopic Surgery is a minimally invasive surgical approach
in which the surgeon, using long, thin specialized instruments
and aided by a laparoscope, makes 3 to 4 small incisions
(1/4 inch to 1/2 inch long) to access the interior of the
abdomen.
A
laparoscope is a long, thin telescope-like instrument containing
a high-intensity light source and a system of lenses. It
enables the surgeon to examine the abdominal cavity and
to perform other diagnostic or surgical procedures under
direct magnified vision without the need for major surgery.
Laparoscopic
Surgery is also known as:
• Keyhole surgery
• Minimal access surgery
• Band-aid surgery
• Video endoscopic surgery
