Dr. Filomena Legarda-Montinola, chair of the department of dermatology
at Asian Hospital and Medical Center, shows one of the latest
technologies offered at the hospital’s Dermatology Laser
and Light Center, which provides non-surgical procedures for
permanent hair reduction, wrinkle removal, skin tightening and
lightening, acne scar improvement, and face and leg vein treatment,
among others.

The Polaris LV, meanwhile, is for the treatment of unsightly facial
and leg veins also using the Polaris-ELOS Technology. The machine
ablates and destroys superficial veins, which is a better option for
those who don’t want to undergo the traditional procedure of
sclerotherapy, which involves an injection of a solution directly
into the vein. “While sclerotherapy is still the gold standard
in the treatment of facial and leg veins, some patients are “needle
phobic” and experience pain in this procedure. With the Polaris
LV, pulses are produced along the visible veins to zap these facial
and leg veins. With just one to two sessions, the patient no longer
has to contend with unsightly veins,” said Dr. Montinola.
Chronic
skin conditions like Vitiligo, Psoriasis, Atopic Dermatitis and
other types of eczemas can now be treated using the Daavlin 3 Series
Phototherapy Unit, a top-of-the-line ultraviolet chamber that emits
UVA and UVB rays at a safe narrow-band intensity range. The session
depends on the patient’s skin condition but exposure to the
rays usually entails only one minute per session.
The
Dermatology Laser and Light Center also boasts of highly competent
