| More
and more Filipinos today suffer from stroke or brain attack, which
occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery or a blood vessel breaks,
interrupting blood flow to the brain that may cause brain damage.
As a component of vascular diseases, it currently ranks as the second
leading cause of death among Filipinos according to the Department
of the Health.
To
help educate Filipinos on the prevention and management of stroke,
the Asian Hospital and Medical Center will conduct a lay forum titled
“Stop Stroke Before It Stops You” on September 15, 2007,
7 a.m., at the 4th Floor Training Room of the hospital.
The
symposium will feature medical experts from Asian Hospital who will
help participants understand better what stroke is all about, how
to prevent it and effectively handle a stroke victim, and most importantly,
to help one know if he or she is at risk.
The
forum will also hold a blood pressure check, cholesterol and FBS
screening to help participants take that early step on stroke prevention.
Diet counseling will also be provided to help them know the proper
diet in the prevention and management of stroke.
Those
who will avail themselves of the free blood test must undergo 10
hours of fasting,
The
symposium is free of charge but pre-registration is required. For
inquiries and pre-registration, call the Asian Hospital Marketing
Department at 771-9000 to 02 local 8066 and 8073, or email at marketing@asianhospital.com.
