To
some it is a game of ease that only entails walking or swinging
of the arms. But the fact is, playing golf involves 8x the stress
as more force is applied by the muscles in every golf swing. When
the body is not properly prepared for this activity, the player
could actually injure himself.
With the aim
of helping golfers prevent injuries while at play, the Asian Hospital
and Medical Center Department of Rehabilitation Medicine will hold
“The Golf Swing: Scientific Analysis and Injury Prevention,”
a symposium and golf performance training, on September 22, 2007,
8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the 4th Floor Training Room of the hospital.
Besides helping
prevent golf injuries, the symposium is also aimed at helping golfers
enhance their performance and also help those who have present injuries
manage the pain and know where it is originating to fully enjoy
their favorite sport.
The symposium
will feature specialists from Asian Hospital and Medical Center
such as Dr. Antonio Rivera, medical director of the Asian Hospital
and Medical Center, who will tackle the muscles commonly injured
in golf; Dr. Tyrone Reyes, head of the Department of Rehabilitation
Medicine, who will discuss the rehabilitation treatment of golf
injuries; and Christopher Borja, physical therapist and golf performance
specialist, who will let participants in on golf-specific evaluation
and golf performance training.
The
symposium is open to all golf enthusiasts and is free of charge.
