Asian
Hospital and Medical Center to hold oral and maxillofacial symposium
The Department of Dental Medicine of the Asian Hospital
and Medical Center will hold the 2nd Annual Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery Symposium on May 31 to June 2, 2007 at the 4th Floor Training
Room of the hospital.
The symposium is aimed at the functional rehabilitation
of patients through advanced surgeries such as cleft maxillary distraction
and mandibular reconstruction.
The hospital has collaborated with world-renowned
specialists from the University of Hong Kong who will educate participants
on the latest in oral and maxillofacial surgeries. It will feature
Dr. Lim K. Cheung, chief professor in oral and maxillofacial surgery
and associate dean in research and discovery of the Faculty of Dentistry;
Dr. John Lo, assistant professor; and Hannah D. Chua, PhD candidate
of the Discipline of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
The
symposium will also feature a faculty of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery experts from the Asian Hospital and Medical Center, headed
by Dr. Hermogenes Villareal, chairman of the Department of Dental
Medicine, Dr. Theodore Nicholoff, section chief of the Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery section, Dr. Xenia Velmonte, Dr. Roberto Pangan
and other members of the staff who will conduct interactive surgeries
during the symposium.
Among the topics that will be discussed are Advances in Stereomodel
Fabrication, Application of Piezo Technology in Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery, Vascularized Flaps in Maxillofacial Reconstruction, Management
of Craniofacial Fibrous Dysplasia, among others.
The hospital will also feature advanced cases which
will be first performed in the country: Cleft Maxilla Distraction
using Internal Maxillary Distractors; Mandibular Fibrous Dysplasia
Recontouring using Stereolithographic Model Technology; and Mandibular
Resection and Reconstruction with a Vascularized Fibular Flap Guided
by Stereo Model Planning.
