Rehabilitation Program |
Phase
I (In-Patient)
Recommended for admitted patients in stable condition after
a coronary event (e.g. heart attack), angioplasty, coronary
or vascular surgery who are still in the very early stage
of recovery. They will undergo an initial exercise regimen
limited to calisthenics and range-of-motion exercises. As
patients recover and gain strength, their exercise regimen
will gradually progress to level walking as tolerated.
Goals:
• Prevent or reverse the deleterious effects of prolonged
bed rest
• Improve emotional/psychosocial status during convalescence
• Assist early resumption of previous activities
Consists
of:
• Initial evaluation of Cardiac Rehab
Doctor
• Prescribed exercise regimen
• Daily exercise session for 5-7 days or until discharge
Exercises
done:

Active
assistive to active ROM (range of motion) of
major muscle group: ankle exercise; scapular
elevation/depression; deep-breathing exercises
3-5 counts. |

(Post-op
day 1) – upon removal of chest tubes;
start monitored ambulation at 100-200 ft. twice
a day; same exercise as day 1, 5-10 reps; stress
on correct posture. |

extremities & trunk exercises; elbow flexion;
knee extension; ankle exercises (5-10 reps);
monitored ambulation 300 ft twice a day. |
